The Short List Reunion Course For graduates of any fatherhood program

After Nurturing Fathers, a year out, not a 14th week.

Your 13 weeks end with a graduation, and the publisher's own follow-up finds a minority losing ground after that date. Our reunion sessions are for that year, and none of them is session 14.

From the publisher's 1991 follow-up

Further inquiry into this reversal revealed difficult life circumstances and little support for positive parenting.

A reunion session is support for positive parenting, delivered into that window.

How our reunion course connects back to Nurturing Fathers
1 A year out, not a 14th week Nurturing Fathers ends with a graduation. The only two follow-ups anybody has run, 34 years apart, both find a minority losing ground after that date. Neither study is large, and we'd rather you heard that from us.
2 Your facilitator already measures He was trained on the AAPI-2.1 in the same three days he was trained on the curriculum. Of the sites we've looked at, this is the only one that arrives with an instrument and the habit of using it.
3 Nothing here is run twice Nine sessions, each landing nearest a topic he's already met. Six of the 12 topics get nothing, among them the violence session and the father wound, which a single session is the wrong container for.
Content continuity

Nine sessions, and the ground each one is nearest.

Where a man will recognize the territory, so a facilitator can say so out loud, and a director can see what's new. Three of the nine land nearest the two self-nurturing sessions and the feelings session, the half of the curriculum aimed at the man rather than the child.

Two of these are deliberate: Fathering without Violence or Fear and Healing the Father Wound are the two we'd least want to open in a room we don't have back next week. A reunion session is one idea in one sitting. It isn't a shorter version of the thing he already finished.

Session structure

Your 13 weeks build on each other. Ours don't, on purpose.

Nurturing Fathers: 13 weeks, same room, same menOne session, or as many as nine
Nurturing Fathers: 2½ hours60, 90 or 120 minutes
Nurturing Fathers: Sequence that buildsEach session stands aloneThe graft point

This is where the two are least alike. Nothing in our sessions assumes he was at the last one, and nothing assumes there's a next one, which is what lets a cohort that graduated and dispersed come back for one session. What carries across runs in our direction: A man who has already done 13 weeks arrives knowing how to be in the room.

Anticipated outcome

You already have an instrument. This has one number.

Your facilitator was trained to give the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory, which reports on five constructs. A reunion session doesn't move a construct, and we don't claim it does. It produces one figure: the men who leave with one thing they want to start doing, in their own words, and the day they'll begin, out of the men in the room. Your site already holds the AAPI from before and after 13 weeks, which makes it the place to test one against the other.

The one figure, during the session
6 in 10 Our target floor: men who leave with one thing to start doing and the day they'll begin. Nothing quoted above it until pilots report.
